Cities 4.0

Cities 4.0 was successfully held on 23-24 September 2019 at Hotel Istana, Kuala Lumpur. 

This 2nd edition of Cities 4.0 conference and exhibition was co-organised by Ministry of Housing and Local Government, Human Life Advancement Foundation and Confexhub Group with support by MIGHT, MDEC,MARii, MIDA and SME Corp. The opening ceremony for Cities 4.0 was launched by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad via video recording and officiated by YB Puan Hajah Zuraida Binti Kamaruddin, Minister of Ministry of Housing and Local Government. In conjunction to Cities 4.0, YB Puan Hajah Zuraida Binti Kamaruddin, Minister, Ministry of Housing and Local Government launched the MALAYSIA Smart City Framework. 

As part of this conference, five Malaysia Smart Cities Alliance (MSCA) Members took part to exhibit their product and service on smart city solutions. The Booths are as follows:

Dr. Raslan Ahmad, SVP, MIGHT gave a Special Address on Moving Towards Smart Sustainable Cities Through Partnership. Cities 4.0 aimed to provide an interactive platform for governments, municipalities, urban planners, developers, urban futurists, solution providers and innovators to converge and make positive impact in shaping resilient and sustainable cities. In conclusion, Cities 4.0 managed to gather the public and Association of Southeast Asian Nations region to explore on ideas and strategies in elevating the smart city concept and digital adoption in the region.

3rd Global Platform for Sustainable Cities Annual Meeting in Sao Paulo, Brazil

3rd GPSC Meeting is a global conference which was successfully held on 16-20 September in Sao Paulo, Brazil. This five days programme was attended by government leaders, city practitioners and global experts which played as a platform to explore how they can work together in planning, finance and sustainable development implementation. There were three key urban development partners—the World Bank’s Global Platform for Sustainable Cities (GPSC), Brazil’s Sustainable Cities Program (SCP), and the host city of São Paulo—which collaborated to organize the conference. For this year, the conference headlined by a Mayors’ Roundtable which attracted all participant which consist of leaders in high-level plenaries from national governments, international organizations, and the private sector. As part of this conference, there also was SCP’s Sustainable Cities Award Ceremony which showcased  Brazil’s best urban solutions and launch of Brazil’s Sustainable Cities Knowledge Platform and Innovation Observatory, which are led by Brazil’s Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovation, and Communication.

Smart Cities Asia 2019 

Date : 11-12 September 

Venue : Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre 

Smart Cities Asia 2019 (SCA19) edition was successfully held on 11-12 September 2019 at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. This 2-day event  served as the place to collectivize smart cities agenda, establish partnership, to optimize the potentialities of cities and cultivate better knowledge sharing culture amongst the key players. Strategic issues discussed on Day 1 and Day 2 focused into 4 different industry verticals which are Governance & Planning, Smart Mobility & Connectivity, Urban Intelligence and Smart & Sustainable Development. With theme Making Cities Smarter, MIGHT was involved as one of the supporting partners for the conference and participated in the fruitful panel discussion – Breaking Silos and Building Bridges for Smart Cities Success, representing by Zulkifflee Mohamad, Senior Principal Analyst 1 as a panel speaker

Malaysia International Centre for Sustainable Cities (ICSC-My) Workshop and Briefing

Date : 29 August 2019 

Venue : MIGHT Partnership Hub, Cyberjaya

The ICSC-My Workshop and Briefing was held on 29 August 2019 at Function Room 1, Level 1, MIGHT Partnership Hub. The workshop was officiated by Dr Raslan bin Ahmad, Senior Vice President, MIGHT. The briefing was outlined by Ts Zulkifflee Mohamad, Senior Principal Analyst, followed by the moderator instruction from Dr Mazlan from Favoriot Sdn Bhd. This workshop was conducted to discuss the content and views from various stakeholders in related to Sustainable Cities Development in Malaysia. The participants have exceeded to 61 participants. The participants involve by the Ministry, State Department, Municipalities, Industries player, Academician, and NGOs. The workshop was divided into 5 focus groups with each group is blended with different expertise background. Every group should discussion the ICSC-My Components based on the task given. At the end, the group leader has presented their outcomes and discussed with the audience.

Study Tour Visit by Senegal Delegations

Date : 27-28th August 2019 

Venue : MIGHT Partnership Hub, Cyberjaya

Municipal Finance Training is led by United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) which aimed to assist cities for example for Malaysia Cities, to devise an action plan toward that goal, as well as support the cities to implement the plan. Besides, the training also offered drawing materials and experts that builds on the experience of the City Creditworthiness Academy. 

United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) together with Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT) and Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) organize the 2nd Series of Municipal Finance Training held on 27 – 28 March 2019 at MIGHT Partnership Hub Cyberjaya. The first series was successfully held on 27-29 March 2019. This training involved 13 municipalities and 2 Malaysia Smart Cities Alliance members, with a total of 26 participants. 

The pre-assessment was conducted through conference call from 13- 16 August 2019 before the actual training. This is to prepare and expose the participants to the content and requirement of the training. The training program was conducted successfully, and we receive an overwhelmingly positive response from the participant.

Study Tour Visit by Senegal Delegations

Date : 19th - 23rd August 2019 

Venue : Cyberjaya, Klang Valley, Putrajaya, Melaka

Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT) assisted Municipal Development Agency (MDA) with a Study Tour Visit to Malaysia from 19 – 23 August 2019. The objective of the study tour is to explore innovative experience and learn more in developing the evidence base and knowledge for the development of sustainable and resilient cities. 

To support the sustainable agenda initiatives, we hold interactive knowledge sharing sessions together and site visits for the Senegal delegation with the Malaysia smart cities Alliance (MSCA) stakeholders, Municipalities, Industry players, academia and government agencies in the area of smart city development. This study tour involves 19 Senegal delegation, which consists of senior staff, civil servants from partner administrations, and elected representatives of municipalities and two representatives from the Senegal embassy.

This study tour ended with courtesy visit to Chief Minister of Melaka and Mayor of Melaka Historic City Councils. We believed that both parties had gained much knowledge and new ideas through every session held in Klang Valley, Putrajaya and Melaka

5G (BCWG) Smart City Sub Working Group Member Meeting (02), 29 May 2019

Venue : MIGHT Partnership Hub, MIGHT, Cyberjaya

Time : 10:00am to 12:30pm 

This meeting was attended by 7 organizations. The meeting was focusing on the  current status and the assessment of regulatory conditions for the proposed use cases (5G-CCTV and drones). Also, the potential economic impact and the preparation for public consultations on the proposed use cases had been discussed.

National Steering Committee Meeting No.1/2019, 28 May 2019

The National Steering Committee Meeting No.1/2019 was held on 28 May 2019 at Ministry of Housing and Local Government Office Putrajaya. The meeting was chaired by Secretary General, YBhg. Dato’Sri Haji Mohammad Bin Mentek  and attended by 32 participants including members, ex-officious and observers. The meeting has taken place about 2 hours was a fruitful meeting with good interactive discussion by all participants

5G Engagement on regulatory perspectives, 26 April 2019

5G (BCWG) Smart City Sub-Working Group, 18 April 2019

Venue :           Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC)

Time   :           9:30am to 12:30PM 

This meeting was attended by 11 organizations. The meeting was focusing on general briefings, proposed use cases, and discussions on issues and challenges related to smart city project implementation. Key challenges discussed were related to policies and mismatching regulation/coordination among federal and state departments and agencies. Two proposed smart city uses cases, i.e., Public Safety as a Service – CCTV and Drones

Municipal Finance Training, 27 – 29 March 2019

The Municipal Finance Training kicked off on 27 until 29 March 2019 which the opening ceremony on 27 March 2019 was officiated by YBhg. Datuk Dr. Mary Wong Lai Lin, Deputy Secretary General of Policy, Ministry of Housing and Local Government. The training program was co-organised by MIGHT and UNIDO-led Municipal Finance training for Malaysian cities, drawing material and experts from the World Bank City Creditworthiness Academy.

 The training has provided participants with a clear framework and practical options to help cities access capital markets. The training also focused on identifying and/or developing concrete opportunities for private capital financing. The Academy has covered the latest developments in the strategic use of capital budgeting frameworks and tools, land value capture, as well as debt and PPP project financing instruments.

 The training program was conducted successfully and all the participants which involves of municipalities and finance members from government and industry, has took active part in all the three days of the training.  At the end of training, there were evaluation forms given to the participants, and they were required to share some feedback and comment about the training. The trainers also expressed their closing remarks and reiterated the importance of the training for the participants in their scope of work and their readiness for applying the learnt concepts in their assigned tasks. Certificates of completion were distributed among the participants at the end
